Concepts x Clark's Weaver

The cousin of the classic Clark's Wallabies is the Weaver. They've been featured on That's Exage before - cos they're dope. Simple as.

I even tried to cop a pair when I was up in Manchester - but they were sold out of my size in every shop that stocked them.

Detroit - Murder City

Following on with the gritty documentaries here's one about the USA's murder capital - D' Troit. Not the most professional docu out there (think hoodumentary rather than BBC standards) so listening to "Liploc Moe" chat about the hood while smoking a blunt, grasping an unopened bottle of vodka doesn't exactly make for the most convincing testament. However, the vintage stock footage from news reports of the 70's and 80's is definitely riveting and presumably as close to the truth as one will get. Add to that the sporadic flashes of random statistics related to murder and violent crime rates though out the decades makes for an enlightening watch... and everyone loves some crime scene footage and mugshots.

One thing is for sure, it's put me off ever going to Detroit. Not that is was ever top of the list of holiday destinations.

Check it out...

Streetwise [1984]

"Portrays the lives of nine desperate teenagers. Thrown too young into a seedy grown up world, these runaways and castaways survive, but just barely. Rat, the dumpster diver. Tiny, the teen prostitute. Shellie, the baby-faced blonde. DeWayne, the hustler. All old beyond their years. All underage survivors fighting for life and love on the streets of downtown Seattle." [IMDB]

Those of you who know me will be aware that I have a penchant for gritty documentaries. This one is dark. It's incredible to see such young kids act in such an adult way - while still remaining childish. Life on the streets is no joke.
I was surprised by how few of the youts were on drugs (unless they simply kept it on the low) but then maybe crack wasn't about and the heroin epidemic of '90s Seattle hadn't yet struck (as seen in the harrowing documentary - Black Tarr Heroin - also a fantastic but disturbing docu).

I'd strongly recommend both of these, but be warned - it's not pleasant viewing.

No wonder Kurt Cobain was so fuckin' depressed...

Fugazi Sneaks

A fascinating insight into the world of counterfeit sneakers.
The New York Times' Nicholas Schmidle drops some knowledge about the industry of Jekyll sneaks in his article entitled Inside The Knockoff, read it HERE.

I'm sure I must own [at least] one pair of dodgy kicks.

You probably do too...
