"In 1988 young people were looking towards Hip Hop for style inspiration. Gold was big news. Hip Hop stars such as Eric B and Rakim and Run DMC sported fat gold rope chains and large gold medallions. The Face picked up on this in 1988, highlighting the trend but also providing the harsh facts on the reality of gold mining.

"NYC based artist Justin Gignac is attempting to do just that with his newly released "Security!" pins. Best know for the Need (and Wants) for Sale collections, Gignac has teamed up with jewellery designer Max Steiner to create this 18k gold-plated "opulent interpretation of the shoplifter's worst enemy".

Security!" pins are now available for sale from NY retailers Reed Space and Poundcake—as well as the dedicated e-store. A veritable steal at $700 a piece—$550 if your willing to forgo the point diamonds."

So now you can splash $700 and still get arrested by store security for an "anti-theft device" that costs more than your whole outfit.

Then being released only to be mugged at knife point for said "anti-theft device."
