Every now and then you stumble across something that is random, funny and somehow kind of dope...

"Years before Scott Caan would become the pompous character Scott Lavin on Entourage and playing Danno on Hawai’i 5-0, he was a rapper affiliated with Cypress Hill. Yes, you read that right. Scott went by Mad Skillz and together with fellow emcee Mudfoot (years later, he would be known to us as Alchemist), these two PNCs ran together as the rap duo known as The Whooliganz. Their run was in the early 90s, when Cypress and Soul Assassins was running thangs. Although they never officially put out a full length LP, they did drop two singles that were pretty big in the underground scene. Put Your Handz Up was produced by the legendary DJ Lethal and showcases that signature Cypress Hill funk. Hardbody. Whooliganz was produced by Baka Boyz and featured a verse by B-Real."

A brief history:

"The Whooliganz were a 1990s hip hop music group consisting of Scott Caan and Alan Maman. The duo went by the names Mad Skillz and Mudfoot, respectively.

Caan and Maman met as teenagers in the wealthy neighborhood of Beverly Hills, California. The duo began performing throughout the Los Angeles area and gained recognition. Maman's childhood friend, Evidence, introduced the group to Quincy Jones III and they began work on a demo. They eventually caught the attention of B-Real of Cypress Hill. B-Real invited the teens to join the collective Soul Assassins which also consisted of Cypress Hill and House of Pain. The Whooliganz toured the country with the Soul Assassins and their connection helped them land a record deal with Tommy Boy Records."

"The Whooliganz recorded their debut album, Make Way for the W. The first single was "Put Your Handz Up", produced by DJ Lethal and released in 1993. But the single and music video did not receive much airplay. A second single, "Don't Mean Nothin'" was planned but then Tommy Boy decided to drop the group and not release the album. Another song, "Whooliganz", was released as a single in 1995 in the UK on Positiva Records but the duo had already gone their separate ways. Caan followed his father, James Caan, into a successful acting career. Maman turned to making beats and became a successful producer named The Alchemist."

Once you get over the fact that they were clearly children [and have the voices to prove it], and apparently pretty posh ones at that, the music was pretty ill.
It's hard to beat those melodic 90's instrumentals with brooding bass-lines and threatening horn stabs. Add to the mix some big name features like B-Real and you're almost sure to have a banger.

Damn, I miss 90's hip hop!
